The Kane Chronicles book 1: The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

The first book in this exciting new series by Rick Riordan, is a definite must-read for anybody craving the witty writing of Rick Riordan, or, just some quality action and humor, all rolled into one un-put-down-able novel.

I recommend this novel for both genders aged 11-14.

When Sadie and Carter Kane's mother died they were split up, Carter to travel around the world with his father Dr. Julius Kane, a world renowned Egyptlogist, and Sadie living in a flat in England with her grandparents. That all changes when the estranged siblings have to work together to save their father from the Egyptian gods that have been released in the modern world.  On top of that, Sadie and Carter have to learn to deal with their magical lineage and how to control their new-found powers. Can Carter and Sadie work together to stop the gods from releasing their wrath on the world?

The Red Pyramid is a novel that is original. Simple as that. The characters are funny, imaginable and easy to relate to. The plot weaves the modern world in with that of the Ancient gods in true Riordan style; with fast paced action and repartee. Humor is weaved through the novel, that will have you laughing out loud. Lovable characters and iniquitous villains are all around.

Need to Read Trio

Thanks to my friend Fraser, 16, who has given me some reviews for books aimed at girls and boys 14+.

For the kids of Peridino Beach, their greatest dream has become a nightmare.
Every person over the age of 15 has dissapeared without a trace, leaving everyone else trapped in an area where animals are somehow evolving, and some of the kids are starting to change. WIthout authority, the remaining citizens of the tow are descending into chaos with only a few 14-year-olds trying to do anything about it.
If you can't picture it, think X-Men meets Lord of the Flies.

This series is brilliantly written, and I would recommend it to both boys AND girls, though I  would recommend it for readers over the age of 14 due to scenes of disturbing images.

This book, about bridge of all things, is fantastically written by the author of Holes. The Cardturner is about a 16-year old boy who starts helping his blind uncle play cards, but it is nowhere near as dull as it sounds.
This book is the same style of Holes, funny and captivating with a mystery. I would recommend it to readers of all ages and genders.

Set in the magical world of Dragons, Elves and Magic, this series follows the story of Eragon, a farm boy who is the first of the latest, and what may be the last generation of Dragon Riders.

This series is fantastically written, action packed, and a captivating epic that I would recommend to all readers.

THANK YOU FRASER FOR THESE FANTASTIC REVIEWS.

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Book 2 - Ninth Grade Slays By Heather Brewer

I recommend this book for boys - and maybe girls (depending on the genre preference)
In this book, Vlad discovers a lot about himself, who he is, and who he wants to be. But as always, nothing is as easy as it sounds... There's a Vampire Slayer in town that's out for Vlad's blood.
Vlad better watch out, because the slayer is closer than he thinks...
The second book in this fabulous series by Heather Brewer has it all; love interest , menacing enemies, pasts revealed and friends made and lost, old and new, all combined together to make a novel full of nail-biting suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat...
The writing style of Heather Brewer makes you feel as if you are part of the book, it uses understandable language and keeps you interested the whole way through. Be sure to check out The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod !
