Rick Riordan, author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus, grew up in San Antonio, Texas and attended Alamo Heights High School where he then continued on to the Began College at North Texas State.
Son of a ceramicist and a musician, Riordan changed colleges and graduated as an English and History teacher from UT San Antonio.
Riordan submitted his first novel at the age of 13, which was later rejected by the publishers.
He got his idea for Camp Half Blood from Percy Jackson after working as a music teacher at a summer camp for three years.
Riordan then moved to San Francisco for 8 years with his wife, where he had his two sons Patrick and Haley Riordan.
Riordan has two cats and one Labrador mix, his favourite characters to write about in the Percy Jackson series are Grover or Tyson and he likes to travel with his family, music, swimming and to read a good book.
He has written over 20 books mostly for Young Adults, and one series for adults.
